SA:MP crashes on startup, help.
This seemed like the forum that fitted my question the most.
I reinstalled samp because it was crashing, but when I run SA:MP with steam, it crashes, but when I run the same .exe NOT using Steam, it runs perfectly fine, could anybody help me with this? I like to use Steam for my games.

Re: SA:MP crashes on startup, help.
Although I use the Steam GTA:SA, I use a different .exe.
Steam gives you the 3.0 gta-sa.exe. As far as I know, SA:MP requires the 1.0 GTA_SA.exe. You can not downgrade the steam 3.0 to the 1.0. Just grab a 1.0 off the internet and put it in your steam/steamapps/common/grand theft auto san andreas folder. There is no need to remove the 3.0 .exe; SA:MP can differentiate between the two executables.

So, I need to find a samp1.0.exe? Where would I find it?

I was kind of hoping for a link, but I guess I'll try to find it.

Re: SA:MP crashes on startup, help.
Well, I'm guessing by "common" you meant my steam account name, but when I look in that folder, there is no folder called grand theft auto san andreas, only my games downloaded off of steam show up there. Should I just replace the .exe in my rockstar games\grand theft auto san andreas folder?

Re: SA:MP crashes on startup, help.
It goes, almost exactly
Program Files/Steam/Steamapps/common/grand theft auto san andreas
Not your name. If /common is not there, try starting GTA once through steam so it'll generate the stuff.
Edit: Thats how it is on my pc w/ STEAM. If it doesn't work, ye are on your own mate.

I'm guessing I don't have that folder because I didn't buy gta from Steam.

Yeah, it's called non-steam game, -_-
Edit: I didn't even realise you could buy GTA SA from steam.

Re: SA:MP crashes on startup, help.
I can run SAMP through Steam just fine, and my GTA:SA was bought out of the box before Steam even existed just like yours. So this is possible, im just not entirely sure what your problem could be.
You are adding SAMP as a non-Steam game to your Games List right?

Re: SA:MP crashes on startup, help.
Yes, SA:MP has always worked in the past on Steam as a non-steam game, but now when I launch any server with SA:MP (on steam), the loading bar gets to about 90% and then it minimizes and it says SA:MP has crashed.
I doubt it, but could it be something to do with the fact that I pirated GTA SA? It has worked for a very long time so I'm not sure why it just quit.

Re: SA:MP crashes on startup, help.
Have you tried all the usual fixes, ie.
Reinstall GTA:SA
Reinstall SAMP
Delete gta.set from your userfiles (causes most crashing problems, try this first)
It could just be a Steam update that has messed with it, in which case there probably isn't much you can do

Re: SA:MP crashes on startup, help.
Deleted gta_sa.set from my userfiles, reinstalled samp, they haven't worked so I'm going to try to get a new gta_sa.exe and if that doesn't work I'll reinstall gta sa.

I could probably search around my computer and find out myself, but this is faster. How?Leo_Cash wrote:try setting your gta compatibility to 98/me

Re: SA:MP crashes on startup, help.
right click on your gta shortcut > compatibility. Should be there
Re: SA:MP crashes on startup, help.
The shortcut on Steam or in my Rockstar/GTA SA folder? And is it GTA_SA.exe?
Also I'm using Windows 7 so it could be different.

Re: SA:MP crashes on startup, help.
1. Right click on the program's shortcut or .exe.
2. Click on Properties.
3. Click on the Compatibility tab.
and it can be your desktop shortcut or just the game .exe file.

Re: SA:MP crashes on startup, help.
Tried that, when I launched SA-MP with steam, I clicked on "Connect" but instead of the normal SAMP title screen and such it was actually GTA SA that was launching.. And when I launched samp from desktop, I couldn't join any servers.
