Introducing new Factions

I had a little chat with an Admin the other day and he told me that basically the only Faction you guys have got up and running on the server is the Police Department. You have a pretty solid player-base and community, so I reckon that's a little disappointing.

I'm sure that you could find the right guys to lead the various Factions, it'll encourage more people to join and to play - as well as current players having a better time.

Some Factions you might like to consider would be the following;

San Fierro Police Department [SFPD] (Just a namechange as the server is pretty much based in SF)
San Andreas Fire & Medical Department [SAFMD]
Secret Service [SS]
Federal Bureau of Investigation [FBI] - Not sure if this is already an official faction, I saw the FBI section but still, not sure.
Hitman Agency
National Guard / Army

Thoughts, opinions, criticisms?

Let's keep this to a (fairly) educated discussion, free of trolls and other unsavoury creatures.

maybe before talking to admins and posting suggestions you should actually try playing on the server a little longer

San Fierro Police Department [SFPD] -> plastic surgery
San Andreas Fire & Medical Department [SAFMD] -> we tried this and it was abused and exploited
Secret Service [SS] -> there is no president or fake money on the server, its useless
Federal Bureau of Investigation [FBI] -> It was merged with the pd because they essentially do exactly the same things
Hitman Agency -> exists
National Guard / Army -> who are we going to war with?

We don't really need more LEO or civilian factions, what we need are competent gang leaders who actually want to roleplay.

How about you (and I mean you in a VERY general sense) ease up on the cynicism, criticism and negativity and actually post something worthwhile, that goes for the whole server. This community is populated by trolls and those who like to take the easiest option and be sarcastic, cynical bastards. You all come across as highly unprofessional and immature. Now.. one by one on your points.

SFPD -> That's what I said... no need to repeat it.
SAFMD -> How about you actually give it some work and FIX the things that are abused and exploited - It works perfectly fine elsewhere.
SS -> Was a mere suggestion, I highly doubted it would be implemented, just another idea.
FBI -> If you have the FBI and PD doing the exact same things then you have some serious problems up high - their jobs are FUNDAMENTALLY different.
Hitman Agency -> Oh.. but of COURSE it does! Let's bring in the most specialised faction when we have such a small server pop because I'd like to be a hitman, typical - how about introducing worthwhile factions before this one.
National Guard -> You don't need to 'war' with anyone. They can simply have heavy vehicles / weaponry (Hydras, Tanks etc.) and be called in to massive situations - such as PD invasions or massive gang wars.

In my opinion, SAFMD is essential. Next priority would be the FBI. Then you can go from there. Now - as I said in my first post, how about some educated discussion and arguments?

Please do not speak about roleplay when you yourselves have branded the server as "Light Roleplay". That's already a step in the wrong direction. I joined the server to see someone get killed, I then ran down the road a few blocks and saw a massive war going down. You won't get gang leaders who actually want to roleplay with the current orientation of the server - be stricter, be meaner. And even if you stumble across the odd gang leader who wants to roleplay, good luck getting members.

If you want some ideas, if you want some help, I can provide that. Swallow some pride and ask.

We're not here to be professional and mature towards some assmuncher that walks in telling us what to do. We pay for the server, we give you a chance to play on it, but we can very well tell you to fuck off like I'm about to.
I was being nice by telling you to play longer because I figured you didn't know about the last 3 years szr's been around and what's been done and what I've seen - But you seem to think you still know better.

The problem is not so much the faction, but more the number of actual things to do when you are in it, ie the things which make it interesting. Unfortunately there are not really enough things to do.

The only factions that could be re-opened are as follows.

Fire dept / medic
- although there is little for them to do except drive around abusing fire trucks
- I have a side project to create fires, but at the moment there is nothing

arab taxi
- originally added so players could take the job and actually be taxi's
- the server has never really supported a full time taxi faction because players don't use them
- after the novelty wears off its just 24/7 spam of taxi announcements which everyone ignores

I was considering adding a new faction dealing with business, maybe taxation, rent or something, but the ideas were not flowing, and I figured it could be a job for the mayor anyway.

Given that it's a server with a massively humourous bent, there's no need to be "professional", and indeed, if someones trying desperately to be professional (which, as an aside, you're failing at terribly if that's what you're trying to be) over a video game, one should examine their priorities.

And once again, this community is different. In real life, certainly, here, it's more fun to have it as one big group, and when someone wants to play out an investigation, they can.

Its a rather small, invite-only faction (as I understand, correct me if I'm wrong). Again, we play this with a heavy emphasis on humour and having fun as opposed to taking it all very seriously, and judging by what else you've posted your definition of worthwhile will probably differ significantly from ours. If we want to do something, we do it, and there's a wide diversity of fun choices here that people go with, sometimes even doing many at once with alts, thus not leading to anything similar to the sniper-heavy situation you find in FPS'.

So, a massively overpowered faction, that only gets to use their fun toys occasionally, and in situations wherein it's far more fun to have everyone on a reasonably even keel w/r/t firepower, I'm sorry but this is just absurd. You seem to favour a heavily controlled environment, which goes against both the spirit of this server and indeed the original game.

You're not inviting discussion, you're acting as the be-all and end-all arbiter of how to have Organised Fun with your ten-minute freeview of this server. If it's not to your taste, find somewhere else, don't start with this ridiculous martyr bullshit.

there are actually arabs that still work but it's kind of hard because the arab cars are in fort carson, but still. Muhammed Muhammed, Hudad Jalal, Ahmed_Ahkbar or something like that ...

I still think fire dept and paramedics as regular jobs that can be infiltrated by gangs would be the best. Firemen get extra armour and can use the fire truck as a weapon during fights, and paramedics being able to heal people in ambulances and revive people with defibrillators would all make combat more interesting, just sayin'.
