a couple of things for factions/families

Post by Mick »

I think these things would be really useful:

* A "/roster" command - this command would show all the members in the gang/faction, possibly even their ranks or whatever even while they're offline, different from the current /families system that only shows online members.

* The ability for leaders to kick offline members from the family, that way if someone never logs in you can actually kick them out. Also maybe even the ability to promote/demote members that are offline.

Member counts should also go down when fuckers leave / get kicked, aswell as fixing the MOTD

Those are actually some good suggestions. It would make things a lot easier for the LTs and the boss.

If someone can't keep track of who their members are, should they really have a family in the first place? Though it would be useful to see who is/isn't active, it seems like it is making it too easy to run a family/faction without actually putting forth any effort *cough*.

Yeah because having an updated roster is all it takes to be a good leader.

Your first suggestion is virtually useless and could be used for OOC purposes only, which wouldn't happen.

The second suggestion as well as part of your first is not possible, why do you think it's a process to unban people? Because it's a pain to do anything for anyone who is not online, and most of the time if not all of the time it is done manually.

It's possible but it would have to save every name and rank of every person that ever joins a gang, then save the list again when they /quitfaction.

And unless you edit their ini (give leaders access to ini's) you can't remove them from the family when they are offline.

So yes, it is possible, but not with a command. (unless you make all the ini's accessible in game, i'm sure there aren't too many of those *sarcasm*)

/roster is more difficult to do with pawn but can still be accomplished with shit like shell scripts. when we re-do sql accounts it'll be much easier, and faction membership may be one of the first things to go, since it probably will get its own table.

The problem is that a roster is something for a SQL database, which is suspect to be one of the reasons for the previous crashes.

Edit: Didn't see Jim's post. But yeah....

the crashes continued for a good while after the rollback, also i bet lots of servers use SQL databases and they don't crash
also

/me awaits an apology

Nah, I have seen plenty of servers successfully implement SQL databases into RP servers, so I know it can be done. Maybe it was a problem with the database, maybe it was a problem with the script, but I'm sure we (you) can get it working again.
