Newbie City

Post by Juke »

<Juke> it would be cool if there was a second city like LV or SF that was self sufficient (mat points, drug house) but had no cops, newbies spawn there and pub gangs fight there
<Sidorov> basicallt DM city, juke?
<Juke> yes

<Lockie> Okay so you have just 2 public gangs there
<Joe_Goebbles> DM city would by funny
<Joe_Goebbles> be*
<Joe_Goebbles> And you can 'move' to non faggotsville
<Lockie> New people are distributed in them automatically? Then they can /quitfaction whenever they want
<Juke> i didn't think of that but it's a good idea

<brains> if you want to do that
<brains> i'd lock off sf from ls proper

We lose one empty city (LV or SF, it doesn't matter) and we gain so much more. Newbies can start by DMing each other and shooting everything in sight, and they'll slowly get acclimated to the server in public gangs. Most people can't make the transition to a gang immediately without RP experience... And most gangs don't want to deal with them. But if you don't get in a gang the server is pretty boring, so it's hard to start out here

I'm completely serious about this, fuck I would probably make characters to go play around in newbie city

This could be pretty awesome. Learn the ropes, work the aggression out of your system, and be far enough away not to disrupt everyone else in the process.

Sad to lose a city, but if one is to go, I guess it'd be SF; seems a lot easier to quarantine, comparatively.

A fresh approach to the GTA vs Roleplay barrier that many pub server players have difficulty altering their behaviour for.

Here is my take on it:
As I said in IRC, there should be two public gangs that newly registered players are automatically distributed into. The city will be a bit like the movie 'Escape from LA' with either physical walls around it or what brains suggested. Gang 1 and Gang 2 fight each other for objectives to get their DM fix.

DMers in the 'real world' are teleported to this mega prison rather then banned. At any time, players can ask admins to get out, all admins get some kind of 'release player' command, and it is up to their judgment whether the player is worthy of the real RP city.

The idea is weird as hell but its something to think about.

Sounds like a good idea, but it'd probably reduce the population of the proper city by a fucktonne.

Who would the police arrest if everybody was busy DMing in SF? :|

Real RP criminals and not just faggots.

This would also improve things for the any possible hitmen. I imagine it's annoying having to go after almost nothing but DMers, negating the new RP rules.

This is a great idea, but is it possible to completely block off a city? I'd love to see this happen.

This is good, but it seems like it might be a lot of micromanagement. Having to review every good player who comes to the server might take a while. Maybe make it not that hard for people to leave, because most DMers would rather stay in the city rather than leave. That way you wouldnt really have to regulate everyone.

I like the idea though if its possible.

It seems a bit complicated, and I predict Los Santos becoming a ghost town

It will decrease the population on the short term, but it will decrease the population of newbies and put them together. I think more people will stick with the server. There are so many level ones that come in for one or two play sessions then give up because there's nothing to do when they start.

It should be very hard for people to get in at level one, maybe it costs 100k to get in at level one, 10k at level two, and free at level three. When people leave the city, they automatically start a second tutorial that's more focused on RP rules.

I also think you should give people a way to switch between the factions, because when friends come on the server together they'll just keep remaking characters until they get two on the same side. Maybe allow people to switch for free until one side has ten extra members, then it's not allowed until it evens up.

I seriously don't think this would make Los Santos a ghost town. What it would do would weed out the bullshit players that we have to deal with, and make the admin jobs a little easier. The worst it would do is.. well I can't think of a bad alternative to this, it seems like an awesome idea. Hackers won't ruin events, and I won't have to go out of character with Robert Boyer and start kicking some retards ass who decided he wants to deathmatch people in Dillimore.

I'd imagine it would be a matter of tying in a variable where newplayer = 0 or 1 .. where 1 would mean yes, and 0 would mean no. Of course the variable would change once the player achieved whatever it is they need to achieve to play in the main area. You could tie this in with transactions, and disallow new players from receiving /wiretransfer's until they make it to the main area.

Of course I'm just winging it here, and I am not really that familiar with scripting.

if i added this i'd put physical barriers between sf and the rest of san andreas (not exactly hard to do either, considering how rockstar did the exact same thing in singleplayer).

the "economy" (lol) would also be completely seperate and players would have no direct way to add or remove money from one island to the other.

basically what we're thinking here is recreating escape from new york, and putting unpassable barriers around the whole of SF or LV

this will be AWESOME it'd be like an ingame FYAD

LV would be better because its more open, and there are more back alleys to do dealing and escape from in fights. SF is way too compact for this idea.

LV besides the Casinos has some nice slum areas, and also some decent residental areas.

Might be best to have some semi-veteran players be the gang leaders of the newbies to teach them how to get things done properly.

It would also be nice if cadets had to stay in newbie city at least for a little while. Most are terrible at the fundamentals like car chases. I think they'd have plenty of opportunities to hone their skills.

If you want the two cities to not be able to interact I don't see how you would prevent helicopters/planes from interacting. Physical barriers could prevent cars but I don't see how you would stop aircraft.

Sf is the best city. Also DM city must be named Thunderdome.
