Handicaping the Cadet's Tasers

Post by Keegan_Russo »

I brought this up in IRC last night while the server was down and it got some positive feedback.

I'm not going to deny it, but a bunch of the current cadets seem to be tase happy despite their extensive training. I know this, I went through the training myself. Yes sometimes accidents do happen, but a lot of the issues seem to stem not from lack of training, but from being retards.

I propose that that whenever a Cadet uses a Taser, he has a 1 in 4 chance of Tasering himself and a 1 in 10 chance of Tasering another officer that is on scene. Since the repercussions of tasing yourself or another officer can be death and humiliation, maybe cadets will tase less and use backup more often instead of going out on their own. Of course once they get promoted to Officer, this gets removed or say adjusted to something like 1 in 100 chance of Tasering themselves.

What say you SZR?

But my idea will result in laughter and ridicule as Cadets tase themselves.

I believe that's referred to as lag.

I don't really see how you could accidentally tase yourself or someone else.
And if so, you probably shouldn't be a cop. Who knows what you would do with a real gun.

Most cops are absolutely brutal with their taser, not just the cadets. I think it's such a copout from role playing most of the time. I'd rather die at the hand of a police officer in a gun fight 10 times over, than be tased once.

The tazing (while gun fight) isn't anywhere near as bad as it was not too long ago.

Allowing cadets to have it's power is a tragedy waiting to happen.

So which is it? Are they doing better, or are they on their way to calamity? I ask because those two statements are on the verge of being logically incompatible.
